Care & maintenance

Borosilicate glass is durable, but thermal shock still happens. Treat it right, and it lasts indefinitely.

  • Hand wash preferred: Warm water and mild dish soap work best. The wood collar and leather tie should stay dry, wipe them with a damp cloth only.
  • Rinse the filter after every brew: Coffee oils build up in the mesh and turn rancid. A quick rinse under hot water keeps the next brew tasting clean.
  • Deep clean monthly: Soak the filter in a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts hot water for 15 minutes, then scrub gently with a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Avoid extreme temperature swings: Borosilicate glass handles -4°F to 302°F, but don't pour boiling water into a cold pot straight from the freezer. Let it come to room temperature first.
  • Wood care: Once every few months, rub a drop of food-grade mineral oil into the collar to prevent drying and splitting.

Frequently asked

How many cups does 34 oz make?

About four standard 8 oz mugs, or three generous servings. The measurement marks on the glass show 7 oz, 14 oz, and 20 oz increments, so you can brew exactly what you need without waste.

Do I need paper filters?

No. The double-layer stainless steel mesh catches grounds while letting oils through, a fuller-bodied cup than paper-filtered coffee. Rinse it after each use, and it lasts as long as the pot does.

What grind should I use?

Medium to medium-coarse, similar to drip coffee. Too fine and the grounds slip through the mesh or clog it; too coarse and the water runs through too fast, leaving a weak brew.

Can I use it for cold brew?

Yes. Add coarse grounds to the filter, fill the pot with cold water, and let it steep in the fridge for 12–18 hours. The glass handles cold just as well as heat, and the reusable filter makes cleanup simple.

Is the wood collar removable?

No, it's fixed to the glass. The collar insulates your hand from the hot pot and adds a warm, tactile detail to an otherwise industrial tool. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth, do not submerge it in water.
