Care & maintenance

Espresso machines need two things: clean water going in, no scale building up inside.

  • Daily rinse: After every session, run a blank shot through the portafilter and purge the steam wand for three seconds. Wipe the wand tip with a damp cloth immediately, dried milk is cement.
  • Weekly backflush: Remove the portafilter basket, insert the blind filter, add a pinch of espresso machine cleaner, and run the brew cycle three times. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Monthly descale: Use a commercial descaling solution or a 1:1 water-to-white-vinegar mix. Run it through the brew and steam system, then flush with two full tanks of fresh water.
  • Water quality: Filtered water extends the machine's life. Tap water with high mineral content accelerates scale buildup and clogs the internals.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between automatic and manual mode?

Automatic mode extracts a preset volume (adjustable across seven levels from ristretto to lungo). Manual mode runs until you press the button again, full control for dialing in shots or experimenting with yield.

Does it really pull 19 bars?

The pump generates 19 bars at the source. Actual extraction pressure at the puck is around 9 bars after the pre-infusion phase, the standard for espresso.

What grind should I use?

Fine espresso grind, slightly coarser than Turkish, finer than drip. If the shot pulls in under 20 seconds, go finer. If it takes over 35 seconds or stalls, go coarser.

Can I make a latte or cappuccino?

Yes. The steam wand froths milk to microfoam, texture depends on technique, not the machine. Use cold whole milk, submerge the tip just below the surface, and swirl until the pitcher is too hot to hold (around 150°F).

What are the capsule adapters for?

The machine includes two portafilter inserts: one for Nespresso-compatible capsules (NS), one for Dolce Gusto-compatible capsules (DG). Swap the basket, drop in a capsule, lock the portafilter, brew.
