Care & maintenance

Electronics and water are enemies, but coffee scales live near both.

  • Wipe, don't wash: Use a barely damp cloth on the platform and base. Never submerge or rinse under running water.
  • Dry spills immediately: Coffee, milk, water, all can seep into the sensor gaps and short the circuit. A quick wipe saves the scale.
  • Calibrate occasionally: Place a known weight (a bag of coffee, a cup of water weighed elsewhere) and check the reading. If it drifts, recalibrate per the manual.
  • Battery swap: Replace both AAA batteries at the same time. Mismatched battery ages cause erratic readings.

Frequently asked

Can I zero the Pocket Pour Scale with a dripper and carafe already on it?

Yes. Press tare and the display drops to zero, so it counts only the coffee and water you add, up to 105 oz (3 kg) in 0.1 g steps.

How does the timer work?

Press the timer button to start, press again to stop. The timer runs independently of the weight display, so you can track brew time and dose at the same time. The timer resets with a long press.

Can I switch between grams and ounces mid-brew?

Yes. Press the unit button to toggle. The scale remembers the last unit used, so if you always brew in grams, you won't need to toggle every time.

What is 0.1 g resolution?

The scale measures in tenths of a gram, precise enough for pour-over, espresso dosing, or French press ratios. It won't split micrograms, but for coffee, 0.1 g is more than sufficient.

Does it auto-off?

Yes. After a few minutes of inactivity, the scale powers down to save battery. Just press the on/off button to wake it.

Does the Pocket Pour Scale's clear tray come off for cleaning?

Yes. The clear tray is removable, and the base sits on a non-slip rubber mat. Wipe the scale itself with a barely damp cloth, never under running water.

How much can it weigh?

Up to 105 oz (3 kg), in 0.1 g steps. That covers a mug, a dripper and a carafe at once.

Coffee scale vs kitchen scale: do I need a coffee scale?

Many kitchen scales count in 1 g steps and have no timer. A coffee scale like this one reads in 0.1 g and times the brew on the same screen, which makes a recipe easy to repeat.

Which coffee scale should I buy?

For pour-over and espresso, pick 0.1 g readings with a timer. The Pocket Pour Scale is flat and compact, 3 kg max, weight and timer at once. The Workshop Brew Scale adds a removable silicone pad and g/oz/ml. The Studio Timer Scale has a bright LED and is USB rechargeable. All three weigh in 0.1 g increments. See all coffee scales.
