Care & maintenance

Stainless forgives. Soap is welcome. The mesh asks for attention.

  • Daily rinse: Warm water, soft sponge. Soap is fine on stainless. The grounds rinse off the mesh easily when fresh.
  • Plunger care: Disassemble the filter screen once a week, brush the mesh, rinse, dry. Trapped grounds dull the brew over time.
  • Dishwasher: Top rack only, after disassembly. Hand wash preserves the brushed finish longer.
  • Storage: Store with the plunger up, away from the bottom of the carafe.

Frequently asked

How long does it stay hot?

60 to 90 minutes at drinkable temperature, longer if the lid stays on. The double wall is the difference, the coffee does not cool while you read the paper.

What grind do I use?

Coarse, like sea salt. Fine grind clogs the mesh and pushes through, leaving silt in the cup.

Will it crack like a glass press?

No, stainless steel does not crack. Drops dent it. Heat does not bother it. A daily-driver press.

12 oz or 27 oz?

12 oz brews one mug, 27 oz brews two large mugs or a small carafe for the table. The mesh and plunger are identical.

Can I use it on the stove?

No, it is a brewer not a cooker. Use a kettle to heat the water, pour into the press.
