A ceramic body and a wooden ball for a handle. The Orb refuses the usual mug grammar, the grip rolls in the palm, the saucer holds the shape, the silhouette earns its space on the shelf.

The Orb Ceramic Mug is a porcelain coffee cup with a spherical wooden handle and a flat rimmed saucer. 10.5 oz capacity (11 oz), two finishes, matte black or glossy white, built for espresso, lungo, or drip.

Care & maintenance

Porcelain is forgiving. Wood prefers a gentle hand.

  • Hand wash preferred: Warm water, mild soap, soft sponge. The dishwasher works in a pinch, but prolonged heat and detergent dry out the wooden handle over time.
  • Dry the handle: Wipe the wood ball immediately after washing. Trapped moisture between the wood and porcelain can loosen the bond.
  • Wood conditioning: Once every few months, rub a drop of food-grade mineral oil into the handle to keep the grain from drying and cracking.
  • Microwave caution: The porcelain is microwave-safe, but avoid heating for more than 2 minutes, the wooden handle can get uncomfortably warm.

Frequently asked

Why a spherical handle?

It is a tactile experiment. Your fingers wrap the sphere naturally, or your thumb rests on top while the hand cradles the side. Either grip feels more deliberate than hooking a finger through a loop.

How much coffee does it hold?

10.5 oz to the brim, about 9 oz comfortably filled. That is a double espresso with room for milk, or a small pour-over, or a cortado with extra foam.

Which finish should I pick?

Matte black is subtle and modern, hides tannin stains better. Glossy white is bright and classic, shows every ring but cleans easily. Both pair with the same natural wood handle.

Is the wooden handle glued or screwed?

Glued with food-safe adhesive, then reinforced with a hidden pin for shear strength. It will not unscrew, but repeated soaking in a dishwasher can weaken the bond over time, hand washing extends the lifespan.

Can I use it for tea?

Yes. The size is ideal for a single loose-leaf steep or a small pot pour. The saucer catches drips from a wet tea bag.
