Care & maintenance

Porcelain is forgiving, just a few rules keep the matte glaze looking sharp.

  • Dishwasher safe: Top rack preferred, especially for darker colors. The matte finish can lighten slightly over many cycles at high heat.
  • Hand wash for longevity: Warm water, soft sponge, standard dish soap. Rinse, dry, done.
  • Avoid abrasive scrubbers: Steel wool and rough sponges scratch the matte glaze. Use the soft side.
  • Stacking: The unglazed base prevents chips when stacked. Six cups nest cleanly in a small cabinet.
  • Coffee stains: Soak overnight in warm water with a tablespoon of baking soda. Rinse in the morning, the stain lifts.

Frequently asked

Why no handle?

Unhandled cups are a Scandinavian and Japanese design tradition, simpler to store, easier to grip, more tactile. Your hand wraps around the warmth instead of hooking a narrow loop. It feels closer to the ritual.

Is 8.5 oz too large for espresso?

It is larger than a traditional demitasse (2–3 oz), but it is sized for modern espresso drinks: double shots, cortados, macchiatos, or a small pour-over. It also works well for loose-leaf tea or matcha.

Which color should I pick?

Black is minimal and hides stains. Grey is neutral, pairs with any table setting. Blue is calm, slightly coastal. Red is warm, visually bold. All four are matte, slightly textured to the touch.

Why is the base unglazed?

An unglazed base prevents slipping on smooth counters and protects the glaze when stacking. It is a functional detail borrowed from Japanese pottery, raw ceramic underfoot, smooth glaze where your lips touch.

Can I use it for hot drinks?

Yes. Porcelain retains heat well but does not burn your palm. The unhandled design means you feel the warmth directly, some find this grounding, others prefer a handled cup for very hot drinks.
