Brew ratios

Cold brew uses a stronger ratio than hot brew, around 1:8 by weight, since the cold extraction yields a concentrate diluted to taste with water or milk before drinking.

Water temperature: Cold or room temperature water. The brew happens slow, between 4 and 24 °C.

Care & maintenance

Glass and stainless steel are forgiving but coffee oils still settle on the mesh. A periodic deep clean keeps each batch tasting clean.

  • After each brew: Empty the grounds, rinse the mesh under warm water with a soft brush.
  • Weekly: Soak the mesh in warm water with mild detergent to dissolve oils.
  • Hand wash recommended: The borosilicate glass is dishwasher safe but the lid seal lasts longer with hand wash.
  • Avoid sudden temperature shocks: No boiling water on cold glass.

Frequently asked

How long does cold brew take?

12 to 24 hours in the fridge. 12 hours yields a milder concentrate, 16 to 18 hours is the sweet spot for most beans, 24 hours is bold and intense. After that, taste turns bitter.

What grind size?

Coarse, like breadcrumbs. The same grind you would use for French press. Finer grinds clog the mesh and over-extract.

Do I drink it concentrated or diluted?

Cold brew at 1:8 ratio is a concentrate. Dilute with water, milk, or oat milk to taste, usually one part concentrate to one or two parts of dilution. Pour over ice.

How long does brewed cold coffee keep?

Up to 7 days in the fridge with the airtight lid. After that, the flavor flattens. Keep cold and sealed for the longest hold.

Can I use it for iced tea?

Yes. The mesh works the same way for loose-leaf tea. Cold-brew tea takes 6 to 12 hours and yields a smooth, low-tannin cup.
