Care & maintenance

A 304 steel whisk under warm water, dried upright. The frother asks for almost nothing.

  • Rinse after each use: Warm water while the whisk spins clears milk film. Ten seconds under the tap, stand upright to dry.
  • Detach the whisk weekly: Pull the head straight off, wash separately. Milk that dries at the joint tastes sour in the next cup.
  • Wipe the body: Damp cloth only. Never submerge the motor housing or the USB-C port.
  • Battery care: Recharge over USB-C before it runs flat, store at room temperature, and the 304 steel head will not rust no matter how often it gets wet.

Frequently asked

How long to froth milk?

About 20 to 30 seconds depending on volume and milk type. Whole milk foams faster, oat milk needs a little longer. Step up through the three speeds for denser foam and you will see the texture change before you feel it thicken.

Does it heat the milk?

No, it only froths. Warm the milk first on the stove or in the microwave. Around 50°C gives the richest foam, but cold milk works for iced drinks too.

What milks froth best?

Whole dairy holds the tightest foam. Oat milk froths nearly as well. Almond is thinner and soy can split if it gets too hot. All of them take on some texture.

How do I charge it?

A USB-C cable is included. Plug it into any USB port or wall adapter and the indicator light tells you when the battery is full. One charge covers plenty of mornings before it needs topping up.

Is it just for coffee?

No. The same wand whips matcha, hot chocolate, protein shakes and salad dressings, and beats a couple of eggs in seconds. It is a small kitchen tool that earns its drawer space.

What part touches the milk?

Only the whisk, a 304 food-grade stainless steel coil. The matte plastic body is the handle and stays out of the milk.

How do I clean it?

Run the whisk for about ten seconds in warm water after each use, then stand it upright to dry. Once a week, pull the whisk head off and wash it separately. Wipe the body with a damp cloth and never submerge it.

Handheld frother vs electric jug frother: which should I get?

A handheld wand is small, cordless and quick to rinse, but it only froths, so you warm the milk separately. A jug frother heats and froths in one go and is hands-free. If you want lift for one or two drinks with little counter space, the handheld is enough.

What's the best milk for a latte at home?

Whole milk froths into the creamiest, most stable foam because of its fat and protein; barista versions of oat milk are the closest plant option. Cold milk straight from the fridge gives more volume. To froth it, the Barista Milk Frother is a cordless USB-C wand, and the Le Maestro Milk Frother heats and froths in one jug with hot and cold foam modes. All frothers: all milk frothers.

Are electric milk frothers worth it?

Yes if you drink lattes, cappuccinos or matcha lattes: they give café-style foam in seconds for about the price of a few café drinks. The Barista Milk Frother foams in about 20 to 30 seconds and recharges over USB-C. The Editor's Wireless Frother sits on its charging stand. Pair with a moka pot or a strong French press for the coffee.

Do you have a rechargeable milk frother?

Yes, three. The Barista Milk Frother charges over USB-C, 3 speeds, black or white. The Editor's Wireless Frother docks on a charging stand and comes with two whisk heads. The Atelier Twin Frother has a brushed aluminum body, USB recharge and two stainless whisks. The Bench Hand Frother runs on AA batteries instead.
